Your Child and Surgery

Naugatuck Valley Surgical  is dedicated to creating a warm and welcoming, family-oriented patient care environment.  Our staff is committed to providing outstanding and compassionate care to each and every one of our pediatric patients, and at the same time, dedicated to responding to the concerns and needs of parents and family members.  Surgery may be frightening to a child, mostly because the surroundings and experiences are unfamiliar.  We want to make your visit as pleasant and comfortable as possible.

What Can You Do

Schedule a Tour:  We encourage you to call us at 203-755-6663 as soon as surgery is schedule to arrange a personal tour.  This will introduce the surgical  environment to your child in a relaxed one on one encounter.  This is helpful in answering your questions and reducing anxiety for his or her upcoming surgery.

Tell Your Child What to Expect:  Encourage your child to ask questions.  We are happy to discuss with you and your child any questions or concerns you may have at any time.

Stay With Your Child:  We recognize that a parent's presence is very comforting to a child.  We request that at least one parent or guardian remain at Naugatuck Valley Surgical  while the child is at our facility.  A parent or guardian must sign all consents for surgery or procedures if the child is under 18 years of age or unable to sign for any reason.  Guardians must bring written proof of guardianship on the day of surgery.  You may stay with your child until they are taken into the operating room, then you will be reunited almost immediately following surgery.  Our qualified staff will never leave your child alone and be very attentive to meet their needs.

What To Expect

A Surgical  nurse will call the day before surgery to confirm specific instructions about your child's operation.  If you will not be available by phone, please call us the day before surgery, between 8 am and 4 pm.  The surgical  staff will address any questions or concerns you or your child may have to help with your surgical experience.  A follow-up call by one of our highly qualified nursing staff will also be made on the day after surgery.
